Mitsubishi takes stake in Acciona solar firm
Mitsubishi has bought a 34 percent stake in the solar power unit of Spanish contractor Acciona, the companies said on Wednesday. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The financial daily Nikkei said in its Thursday edition that Mitsubishi expected to pay "several billion yen." The Acciona unit, Amper Central Solar, operates the world's largest photovoltaic power plant, Amareleja, with a capacity of 45.8 megawatts, about 200 kilometers southeast of Lisbon. In a joint statement, the companies said the deal was the first step in collaborative projects in renewable energy.
